Every row is computed from the final scores of regular-season games. The filter matters more here than in any other sport in this section: MLB fixtures carried no game type at all until it was backfilled from the league, and 7,788 of the games on record are spring training. With those counted, the 2016 Cubs read 125-83 against a 162-game season. Exhibitions, the All-Star game and the postseason are excluded too. Games behind is half the sum of the win gap and the loss gap, which is the league’s own definition, so a club two wins back but two losses ahead sits one game behind rather than two. Win percentage is wins over decisions; MLB has no ties to account for. Division and league are the club’s present ones, so a club that changed division appears under its current one for every season shown.
